Uranium Mining: Part 2 : In-Situ Leaching

With just words only, i believe you all cant get the better picture of the uranium mining. Here, i would like to share two very nice video about uranium mining. Enjoy the video guys~~ ^_^

  1. Hey there. What an infomative post because i do not know what is In Situ mining before this. But in my opinion, In Situ mining method is very dangerous because there is a risk of spreading of leaching liquid outside of the uranium deposit, which will result in groundwater contamination. Besides that, i am sure that it is impossbile to restore the natural groundwater conditions after completion of the leaching operations right?

So my question is, which mining method is better and why?

    Thank You.

  2. Hi Eric! lolx nice 2 c u here~

Yes, you are so right! .... basically there are 3 mining methods which are

    1) Open pit mining
    2) Underground mining
    3) In-situ Leaching

all 3 have their pro's and cons... and we cant say which 1 is better. However, if we plan to dig a land which we going to build something few years later, open pit mining is the best! Next, underground mining is good for uranium, as it wont damage like in-situ leaching, however it exposed high risk to humans, as they are working few hundred feet underground and hence their safety is a big prob, especially when poison gas such as radon is involved. As for in-situ leaching its a good method which wont destroy any ecology as seen above, but the precious underground stream is contaminated. However, if the uranium mine is too deep which is out of underground mining reach, we have no choice but to use in-situ method.
