As for the first lecture, Madam Sheriffah has 6 main points which are
A Energy: Catalyst for Economic Growth
B. Current Energy Regime is Unsustainable
C. Present Status of Nuclear Power
D. Evolution of Nuclear Power Systems
E. Projections for Nuclear Power
F. Global & Domestic Challenges for Malaysian Government & Industry Leaders to consider introducing and expanding Nuclear Power
To summaries her talk, she introduce to us the definition of energy. Energy is actually something very important. This is because, everything we do relates with energy. Therefore, as we know energy is important, we must also know where is the source of this energy come from? This is because, without the energy source, we will not be able to do work. "Work" here is inclusive of the daily normal chores such as walking until the extraordinary chores such as producing a coke drink. In short, a good example is driving a car needs petrol as a source in order for us to move easily and comfortable from point A to B.
However, as we all know, thank to previous generations, we have found many source of energy such as carbon based fuel (LNG, coal, petrol) and also renewable energy fuel such as hydro, solar and wind energy. However, as much as we are aware or unaware, we have a much bigger problem which is we are heavily depended on carbon based fuel. The next horrifying thing is that these carbon based fuel is coming to an extinction, not in the near 20-30 years (except for coal) and thus, a new energy source is greatly needed which is Nuclear Power!! Moreover, the escalating price of carbon based fuel has also lead to the development of Nuclear Power. Thus, that's why we need to start our own nuclear power plant as soon as possible. This is because, our country is 1 of the country that is so much dependent on hydrocarbon fuel. Not only that this energy is not environmental friendly as it contributes to global warming, but its cost is fluctuating from time to time. And each time the government declares an increase in fuel, or electricity, the cost of living will definitely rocket. A good example is roti canai cost RM0.90 in Kuala Lumpur in the early 2000, but today, it costs as much as RM1.30!
After that, Madam Sheriffah continued speaking on the developent of Nuclear Power Plants globally and also how our country, Malaysia is progressing with developing our very own nuclear power plant.
The next lecture is done by 1 of our lecturer in this topic which is Mr Mr Azrudi Mustapha. Seriouly, we saw how awesome and convincing his talk is. Dont believe me? Check how these wonderfull commentators has been impacted and transformed!! (Thank you commentators who backed us up! You all are of great help! =), yes .. you, you and you *points to everyone*).
Mr Azrudi started his talk with our country energy consumption and its effect if it is not sustained. This really lets the audience the the clear picture of what happen in the future if fossil fuel is not being replace. Besides that, he also points out the effects of green house effect, and how nuclear energy can help reduce green house effect. Moreover, Mr Azrudi also explains thoroughly how a nuclear power reactor works and its safety system. In fact, we dare to say that incidents such as CHERNOBYL and 3 MILE ISLAND would not happen as there are at least protective layers defending our nuclear power plants! And the last layer is the 1 meter thick concrete!!!! Finally before ending, Mr Azrudi also mention about radioactive, radioactivity & its waste.
So, the future is in YOUR HANDS as we are the FUTURE GENERATION LEADERS! Therefore, we must choose to opt for nuclear power or ban it!! Remember, we MUST MAKE EARTH SUSTAINABLE for our FUTURE GRANDCHILDREN! =)
*NOTE* We are here as supporters of nuclear power plant. Besides that, we are major role player to provide information regarding nuclear power plant to all readers. This is because we have not a single intention to wipe out all power plant and replace it solely with nuclear power plant. However, we just want to inform all readers that as we develop nuclear power plants, we also developed other renewable resources hand in hand to maximize energy, minimize energy cost and also reduce green house effect!
*P/s we have this nuclear test tonight, so after the test, all comments will be entertained ASAP!, so bring it ON!!! (but please ask relevant question regarding topic) and other comments you can put in the chat box. Thank you very much!
Who knew that nuclear energy, a source of energy
ReplyDeletethat has inflict fear in us for so many years would be the answer for a sustainable energy. I personally taught it was solar or wind, but after the talk by Madam Sheriffah Noor Khamseah Al-Idid binti Dato’ Syed Ahmad, it was clear enough that nuclear energy is the answer. She stated that Malaysia has fasten its development in this field over the years and infact if everything goes well, we are able to see one right here in Malaysia very soon.

By attending this talk me me realiza that Nuclear power plant isn't something that very dangerous. In fact Nuclear Power has a higher safety record than any other major industrial technology. It’s clean, safe, economical and environmentally sound.
ReplyDeleteThe R&D team currently are doing research on development of nuclear power in our country.
Sadly, though, even if the engineering is solid and the estimates accurate, facts are seldom in line with fears
Thus,it is important for student like us to help in expose and introduce this nuclear power to everyone so they have no fear on nuclear power and support it.

I do agree with the talk.although i didn't attend the lecture, but throughout the briefing, now i know how the important of nuclear power plant is.Besides, gradually our current source will use up,so,it's a brilliant early preparation for future mankind.

Mr Azrudi Mustapha did gave a very good talk on Nuclear energy. Before this, i thought nuclear energy is a dangerous yet harmful source of energy due to its usage of radioactive substances. But eventhough it can consider as a green energy and can benefit our future, we must not forget that there is still a chance that something might go wrong, and if that really occur, is Malaysia truly prepared to face the damage? How if the 1 meter reinforced concrete unable to prevent the radioactive substances from being release to the atmosphere?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, i agree that we should also consider other types or energy sources especially renewable energy sources eventhough they will not be as efficient as nuclear will be.
Thank You.

The nuclear power plant is indeed using a radioactive elements which i was very concerned and why i did not support the nuclear power plant program in Malaysia. After the talk, i know now that how safe it is nuclear power plant and as a matter fact 'greener' compared to other sources of energy. Still, as a person with a very low knowledge about nuclear power plant (increasing but still low!), i still worry about the radioactive waste due to my personal perspective on how Malaysia's seasonal serious on dealing with issues (no offence).. :)

yeah! i am very satisfied after attend this talk.
ReplyDeletethis talk is very informative! during this talk,Mr Azrudi Mustapha mention about many useful information, and one of them are about the nuclear waste! and the true fact that is we may take the radioactive waste as our new radioactive mine! this is because some percent of the waste is actually a same radioactive used in the reactor!

Both speakers have gave very brilliant explanation on this topic. They somehow have convinced me that nuclear energy is not dangerous if being manage properly. Accident do occurs but we already learn our previous mistake. Just don't be afraid to make the improvement.

ReplyDeletefrom the talk,i`ve got some good information...
ReplyDeletenuclear energy is completely better than any source of energy that we have now..
if the source that we have now is very dangerous to our nature, why not we try this nuclear energy that have been proven safety to our nature??

the most interesting fact that i pick up in the lecture is that working in a nuclear power plant have less radiation exposure than working as a flight attendant, and i thought maybe nuclear power is quite save, with proper management of course....

Nuclear fusion
ReplyDeleteNuclear fusion reactions have the potential to be safer and generate less radioactive waste than fission.[13][14] These reactions appear potentially viable, though technically quite difficult and have yet to be created on a scale that could be used in a functional power plant. Fusion power has been under intense theoretical and experimental investigation since the 1950s.

ReplyDeletei can see that nuclear energy source comes with more advantages and can also overcome the green house effect problems. can anyone share about its disadvantages, we should consider all factors to decide a good decision.. i can see the potential of nuclear energy source, but i'm afraid of its disadvantages IF there is any..let's discuss on it..

I do know now that nuclear reactor is more safer energy generated industry compare to the other industry such as wind-turbine power plant after attending this talk. So what I am trying to say here is, more talk about nuclear reactor should be held all around Malaysia, in all campus and even school. This will put the right information to the kids and teens about nuclear reactor that they should not fear when hearing the words Nuclear.

as for me i knew that nuclear power could be used as a source of an energy but i was always thinking, can the nuclear energy be safe and friendly to the environment? but after the green talk i found my answer for my frightening questions. so i think the government has to educate the general public about nuclear power. usually, when people hear the word “nuclear”, they will assume it’s a bad thing without giving much concern for it from different angles.

the use of nuclear energy is really effective as an alternative source to fulfill the energy demand throughout the world for the current and future generation. but the main problem is the nuclear waste known as radioactive which is much more dangerous than any other waste that is really harmful. so if our country can prevent the radiation and bring more good, less harm, surely nuclear energy is the best answer for an alternative energy.

assumption inherent in defence-in-depth safety philosophy are people make mistakes, design isnt perfect and equipment fails. what about other factors like natural disaster(earthake for example) or what if a war engages and the power plants are in the war zone?
ReplyDeletehow to deal with those?

This talk is really useful and informative especially to those who don't believe that nuclear energy can be one of the main source of energy for our country. This talk showed us a different side of view of nuclear energy. Yes, it is still considered as a dangerous option but if with the right prevention, we can clearly see that nuclear energy can help to overcome one of the biggest issue we have been dealing with for awhile, which is global warming.

I went to the talk, and it just light up my world about the importance of nuclear energy.
ReplyDeleteThere is 3 things that we need to expose to the public to support and say YES to nuclear.
1. That Nuclear is SAFE. Most of the public get paranoid abt nuclear's safety(we cant blame them tho because most of the hollywood's movies tell bad and scary thing abt nuclear, radiaton, etc)
2. Nuclear is GREEN. It could help reduce the amount of green house gases like CO2.
3. Fossil fuel could gone finish 1 day, and there is only 1 solution to light up the whole malaysia.-NUCLEAR-

I still think that nuclear energy is not the best solution for energy crisis in Malaysia. There are many other alternatives such as solar power and biomass that has less hazardous effect than nuclear energy.

In Malaysia, we still has a lot of alternative energy such as palm oil, for me, we still need do a lot of research to see if the nuclear is really fit to be one of the energy to replace the fuel.
